Arsenal Planning Sensational £60M Double Transfer As Journalist Confirms “Initial Contact” With 1st Club

Arsenal are lining up moves for Lille defender Alexsandro and PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko, according to journalist Sebastien Vidal.

Writing on his X account, Vidal revealed that the Gunners have made “initial contact” with Lille for Alexsandro. The centre-back is expected to cost in the region of £17m.

An approach for Bakayoko has not been made yet but he is being eyed as potential competition for Bukayo Saka on the right wing.

The Belgian international is expected to cost a lot more to sign this summer, with his asking price set at around £43m.

What do fans need to know about Alexsandro?
As mentioned, the 25-year-old is a centre-half by trade but he is two-footed so he would be able to provide cover for either William Saliba or Gabriel.

Alexsandro was actually pictured with the latter last week, after the Lille star made his debut for Brazil in the World Cup qualifier against Ecuador.

With there being doubts over the future of Jakub Kiwior, with the Polish international keen to be a regular starter, the interest in Alexsandro does make sense.

Should Arsenal spend so much on Bakayoko?

Considering he would only be a backup option to Saka, it seems unlikely that the Gunners would meet PSV’s valuation for the winger. That money would be better spent on strengthening the other wing.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been credited with an interest in the likes of Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, Real Madrid’s Rodrygo and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao.

None of these players would be available on the cheap and you do think that investing funds into recruiting one of these three would be a better use of resources than going after Bakayoko.
